To help you solve the most common problems, we have developed this troubleshooting guide.

This includes the definition of the component and types of connection in order to interpret the explanations correctly.

This guide includes the following topics

  • Definition of components
  • Definition of connections
  • Verification of the power supply in the vehicle
  • Problem when synchronization or with PC connection
    • Checking the available memory space
    • Instrument does not come on in the vehicle
    • OBD II power cable test
    • Functional test of the instrument

Definitions

components

The system includes two basic components,

  1. the TL1000 instrument (the black disc with a button)
  2. OBDII power cable (USB cable with OBDII socket for car)

Connections

The instrument can be plugged in two places

  1. In the car, using the OBDII power cable
  2. On the USB port of a computer

Problem solving per type

Problem synchronizing or connecting to the PC

Your instrument must be detected by Windows on the USB Port
In some cases, this detection may take several minutes, depending on the version of Windows and the state and type of computer you are using.
Most of the time, using another USB port on the same device triggered a new detection request in Windows.

On computers that are not recent or have been updated, from another version, the USB ports may not respond correctly.
You must consult a specialist or make the diagnosis yourself using the appropriate tools.

Windows configuration

TripLogik uses Windows drivers, there are no special drivers.

However , Windows 10 contains a widely documented "bug" about USB ports that do not always detect connected devices.

Please check the section for your version of Windows here: USB Port Configuration

Connection and CABLES

Be sure to use the blue cable included with the instrument. The latter is a standard cable.
Note: some early cables use to be black with a TripLogik tag on them

The problem is both types of cables look identical, but internally they are not.
For example, some cables are made to be used with external hard disks or to transfer data from a phone or equipment. Those cables are known as non-standard OTG type.

Triplogik uses a standard cable, OTG will not work with the TL1000

The instrument does not record anymore
No data transfer

Checking the memory space

The instrument contains enough memory to record approximately 50000 KM.

If the memory is full, the instrument will stop recording and beep continuously

(Sporadic beeps start at about 95%)

If the instrument is empty, or the small amount of data inside is not valid, there will not be any transfers.
you may need to run a diagnostic on your instrument.
You may also need to completely delete your database or the instrument memory or both.

Check memory of the TripLogik instrument

  1. Open the Manager software
  2. Connect the TL1000 instrument to the PC
  3. Open the Setting menu, and select the instrument tab

You can also check the used instrument memory in the bottom right of the Main screen , when your instrument is connected to the PC

If the memory shows more than 95%, it is better to do a synchronization as soon as possible to download the data,
and erase the data in the instrument

Instruction how to erase the data here

Try to sync to a new Database
If there is a problem with the data inside the instrument , and you did not delete any data from it since the last sync,
Try the following

  1. Locate the database file, ( link to "how to locate you database file")
  2. Close the Manager
  3. Rename the file named triplogikdatabase.db  to triplogikdatabase1.db ( in order to save it for later)
  4. Restart the Manager
  5. When the application ask for a registration, use "I already have a user" and login with the same email, user name and password you were using before
  6. Plug in your instrument, and add it again to your user.
  7. Start a new sync

If it doesn't work, go back to the database file location, delete the new triplogikdatabase.db then rename triplogikdatabase1.db  back to triplogikdatabase.db

Test the power supply in the car

The instrument is connected to the car's power supply using a cable with an OBDII plug on one side

and a mini USB jack on the other.

IMPORTANT About the new integrated USB ports.

Never plug the instrument into a built-in USB port in your car.

These are usually connected to your multimedia radio system.

Your Radio will attempt to communicate with the instrument and force it into PC communication mode.

the instrument will not work in the car in this mode.

The instrument does not turn on in the vehicle,

Check the following points:

  1. Make sure the cable is plugged into the OBDII jack of the car (pushed in all the way )
  2. Check that the cable is not damaged, cut or stretched.
  3. Check that the terminals inside the OBD cable are not damaged or corroded
  4. Check the fuse that powers the car OBD is not blown ( certain truck use the same fuse as the lighter plug )
  5. Plug the OBD cable in a different vehicle to test if the cable or the car is at fault

How to test the instrument

TEST OF THE INSTRUMENT

  TEST 1

  1. Use a cigarette lighter charger for mobile phone.
  2. Connect the TL1000 using the computer USB cable (supplied with the device) to the phone charger jack.
Make sure to turn on the car's accessory contact or start the car (otherwise the cigarette lighter plugs are not powered).
  3. If the instrument turns on, wait for the instrument to be ready (after the beeps and sync flash) and make a short test test run.

CONCLUSION 1

If the instrument is not working with another power source
Go to next section Testing the OBD II Power Cable

CONCLUSION 2

If the instrument does not work with another power source in the car

Take the TEST 2 test

TEST 2

  • Use a mobile phone charger in a 120 VAC outlet in the office.
  • Connect the TL1000 using the computer USB cable (supplied with the device) to the phone charger jack.
For this test, position the instrument near a window so that the GPS signal is accessible.
  • If the instrument turns on, wait until the instrument is ready. (may be longer because GPS signals are difficult to enter buildings

CONCLUSION 3

If the instrument does not work with any other power source in the car,

Open a service ticket with the results of your tests.

TEST OF THE OBD II POWER CABLE

  TEST 3

  1. Plug the OBD II cable into another car and plug in the TL1000 instrument.

CONCLUSION 1

If the instrument turns on, the cable is in good condition

Have the OBD II plug of the car checked. Several models have a specific fuse that is possibly burned on the other car.

CONCLUSION 2

If the instrument does not turn on, the OBD II cable is likely to be involved.

Open a service ticket with the results of your tests.

OPERATING TEST OF THE INSTRUMENT

If the instrument lights in the car, but the car does not seem to be working properly

  TEST 4

Please follow the following instructions in order

(this test only works on a PC type computer)

1) Close all applications
2) Download the following diagnostic software Tl1000 tester software
3) Start the software you just downloaded and connect the instrument to the PC
4) The application will detect your instrument and display its serial number (if you receive an error at the connection, disconnect the instrument and reconnect it)

5) VERY IMPORTANT

Press the blue button on the instrument when the message "Press the waypoint" will show

(if you do not press, an error will display ... this test button)
If you receive an error, resume from step 3

CONCLUSION 1 TEST 4

If the instrument passes all tests

  1. Sync on your computer to read all the data in the instrument.
  2. Delete all data, with the delete function, in the Manager software ( "Recorder" and "Delete" menu)
  3. Reconnect the instrument in the car and make a test ride

If the instrument passes all the tests and the instrument does not seem to work in the car after the test 4

Open a service ticket with the results of your tests.
