Error "Unable to connect to the remote server" or "No internet connection"

Running a PC with TLSv1.2 disables will generate the communication error "Unable to connect to the remote server" or  "NO internet"

Most likely Fix

You must enable TLSv1.2
Please see section below, titled "Checking and configuring TLSv1.2"

What is TLSv1.2

Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.2 is the successor to Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) used by terminals and applications to authenticate and encrypt data securely when transferred over a network.

TLS is a widely accepted standard used by devices such as computers, phones, IoTs, meters and sensors.

The TripLogik server uses TLSv1.2 to encrypt the data communication between your computer and the TripLogik Map server.

Why do I get this error ? I never changed anything !

"My computer communicates on the Internet, why does the Manager tell me there is no Internet ?"

Even if your computer communicates over the internet, some communication ports, either on your computer or on your network connection, may be disabled.

Several situations may prevent the Manager from communicating

  • No internet connection
  • Antivirus and firewalls block communication
  • DNS not functional or defective
  • Enterprise VPN that blocks or limits communication
  • Public VPN that cannot communicate with the TripLogik server
  • Internal policy of your Windows configuration managed by your IT department
  • Firewalls on the network that block communications

If you upgraded to Windows 11 or if your IT managed TLS settings
In many cases TLSv1.2 communication is disables to the detriment of the TLSv1.3 only.
It could be changed by internal policy of your IT department, by your antivirus, systematically deactivating it, by a Windows update or upgrade.

What can I do ?
You identifed the situation in the list above are all fine
Check and change the TLS setting on your computer.

Typical error messages below

Checking and configuring TLSv1.2

Depending on your version of Windows, there are a few ways to enable TLS1.2

The most common way to enable TLS1.2 on Windows 10 or 11

  1. Close the Manager Application or any other application like a browser
  2. Press on the Windows Key and R

  3. Write Inetcpl.cpl then click OK

  4. When the Internet Properties open, click on the advanced tab
  5. Scroll down in the setting list until you get to the Use TLS x.x version. (image below)
  6. Put a checkmark besides Use TLS 1.2 to activate it , then click OK

            (if TLS 1,3 is activated , you can leave it selected )

Enable TLS1.2 on Windows 10,  if previous method did not work

  1. Close the Manager Application or any other application like a browser
  2. Open Google Chrome
  3. Press on the Alt Key and F
  4. In the drop menu, select "Settings"

5. Click on the "System"menu
(if you have a different Chrome version , Select "Advanced" then "System")

6. Click on "Open your Computer's proxy Settings"

7.   Click on Internet options

8.   When the Internet Properties open, click on the advanced tab

9.   Scroll down in the setting list until you get to the security section where the TLS are listed.

10. Put a checkmark besides Use TLS 1.2 to activate it , then click OK

     (if TLS 1,3 is activated , you can leave it selected )

Enable TLS1.2 on Windows 7

Unfortunately , if you are still using Windows 7, the end is near as it will not support future TLS1.3.
For the moment, you can still enable TLS1.2 but it needs to be activated manually or imported from a registry file.

WARNING

Take note you must have administrative rights to apply this change in windows.

Two ways to proceed

   A) Edit the Registry directly

   B) Import values from a registry file

A) Edit Register ( for specialists)

1- In the register, locate or add the following entry

2- Make sure the DisableByDefault value is at 1

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\TLS 1.2]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\TLS 1.2\Client]

"Enabled"=dword:00000001

"DisabledByDefault"=dword:00000000

"Server"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\TLS 1.3]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\TLS 1.3\Client]

"DisabledByDefault"=dword:00000001

"Server"=dword:00000000

"Enabled"=dword:00000000

*NOTE: Once the registry is modified , reboot your PC to make the change effective

B) Import values from a registry file ( for users with admin rights)

You can download the Windows 10 and 11 registry modification file in the link below.

   1- Download the file to your computer from here ->Enable TLSv1.2_DisableTLSv1.3_Registry import file
   2- Double click on the file to start importing to your registry

   3- At the warning message, click Yes

   4- When the import is complete, the following message will display

Final note:
Once completed , reboot your PC to make the change effective
Restart the Manager

Additional Information

Your Register will now contain the following data that simply enables TLSv1.2 communication

Configuring your firewall and antivirus

TripLogik Manager uses ports 443 and 444  along with TLSv1.2
for communication with the triplogikmap map server and subscription login.

Blocked port errors are common for many applications, whether you are directly on an enterprise network, or connected via a VPN, and even on your private internet. It is also possible that your computer, through its firewall antivirus, will block communication.

Most antivirus firewalls can be configured to allow a specific application (such as the Manager) to automatically set all the ports it uses. This method is more convenient for users than having to build a firewall rule from scratch.

Unfortunately , there are so many brands of anti-virus and firewalls, it is impossible for us to explain in details, how to configure yours.

We suggest you check and configure your antivirus firewall with the assistance of your antivirus/firewall manufacturer, or your IT professional.

Attention

Although your PC might seem to be configured correctly, communication can also be blocked at your network level.

Internal policies on your computer may be managed by your IT department. If this is the case, you should contact your IT department with this complete article.
