In this article we will explain
- What is a local user VS administrator VS local Admin
- What are local users for
- How to create a local user
- how to add Admin privilege to Local User and why
There are 2 types of users
- Administrator and owner of the account
- Local users or Local with admin privilege
Administrator
The Administrator is the owner of the account, in other words , this is the account that will let Manager use the TripLogik Map server subscription.
Local user
Local user do not have a subscription account in the TripLogik Map Server.
Those accounts are used locally, in the Manager.
Local user makes it possible to have more than one user in the same Manager application. Each local User will have its own local user name and password to log in the Manager.
Even if the Administrator doesn't have an instrument in the PC where it is used, the Manager knows what Instrument are activated with a subscription by using the Administrator's account.
Basically , any Local Users go through the Administrator account.
Administrator VS Local Admin User
Although the administrator account can read all other local users' trips, it is possible to assign admin rights to local users as well. The difference between the Administrator and a local Admin in that the Administrator is the owner of the subscription. The Manager application uses the administrators credential to use the Triplogik Map server.
Local Admin
- See and edit data from any other local user (on the same computer only)
- Dose not have TripLogik credential to log onto the TripLogik Map service
Local user (without Admin privilege)
- Can only see their own data.
- Can not edit users
Why and how
Because a company with multiple employees actually owns all of the instruments, it makes sense to have one account for all of the instruments. In this case, the Administrator will have every serial number assigned to the companies account.
This makes it possible to renew all subscriptions, replace instrument lost of broken, reassign instrument to any other user when required.
Example
You just hired a new employee taking over someone else job.
1) Install the Manager on this new employees PC,
When first configuring the Manager DO NOT create a new account. Select "use an existing account", and use the Admin account to install and log to the Manager.
(This will ensure the Manager can communicate with the companies TripLogik Map account.)
2) Add a new "local user" in the Manager ( see instruction below)
3) Connect the instrument and assign it to this newly created Local user.
Why
Because when an employee leave the company, you can simply replete the process for the new employee yourself, without having to create and pay for a new account with TripLogik
Create a new Local User
1) Click on the Users Menu
2) Click on create a new user
3) Fill the new Local User information
4) Click on save
Assign this instrument to the new User
Once you have created a local user
- Plug in the instrument that will be assigned to him.
- Click YES to add the instrument
- Assign the instrument to the local user ( not the admin)
Technical notes about Users
Admin
Since the Admin is the owner of the account, it cannot be changed or removed.
Without this account, it will not be possible for the Manager application to connect to the TripLogik Map server subscription.
In this model, the Admin user is the one who owns all of the instruments subscriptions.

- Main subscription account with permission to log onto the TripLogik Map service
